I live and work in England. I am a qualified mental health practitioner with an M.Phil. from NIMHANS in India and a Doctorate from the Tavistock Clinic and the University of East London. I have worked in mental health services for over 20 years, both in the front line and in management with responsibilities for ensuring the health and social care of people and supporting those who provide it. These experiences have led to my abiding interest in gaining an understanding of the trials and tribulations of mental health work from the practitioners' perspective - hence my doctoral thesis and this website. In addition to this, I am also interested in researching about people with mental ill-health and forensic issues.
I am a visiting lecturer at a number of postgraduate courses and mentor doctoral students at the Tavistock Clinic.
I am a Trustee on the Board of Directors of a mental health charity and chair the Board of its social enterprise.
I am a member of the Public Appointment Ambassador's Network.
Until recently I worked as the Director of Operations of a not-for-profit organisation providing accommodation, care and support across a number of vulnerable groups including youth, mental ill-health, forensic mental health and people with offending behaviours.
I also used to work as the lead Mental Health Commissioner with the Care Quality Commission - the body responsible for regulating the care of people who are detained in mental hospitals in England.
